As a lifelong sports enthusiast, I'm creating Tomboys to fill a void in Des Moines' dining and entertainment landscape. Growing up labeled a "tomboy," I experienced firsthand how this term was often used to mark difference rather than celebrate authenticity. Today, I'm reclaiming that word as I launch Des Moines' first bar dedicated to women's sports.
Tomboys isn't just another sports bar—it's a deliberate space where women's athletics take center stage, not as an afterthought on a single screen, but as the main event. We're building a gathering place where everyone can leave their daily stresses at the door and simply belong while enjoying craft cocktails named after trailblazing female athletes, locally-sourced beers, and elevated bar cuisine.
