WayPoint Resources Purchases New Waukee Home, Launches
$3.2 Million Capital Campaign
 

More than $2 million raised during quiet phase to create a larger, more accessible space for growing community needs

 

WAUKEE, Iowa — September 23, 2026 — WayPoint Resources has purchased a new permanent home at 100 Fourth Street in Waukee and announced a $3.2 million capital campaign to purchase, renovate, and prepare the facility for a targeted spring 2027 opening.

The purchase marks a major milestone for the Waukee-based nonprofit, which has operated from the same basement location for more than 20 years. During that time, annual household visits have grown from just 92 in 2005 to 6,613 in 2025, significantly outpacing the capacity of WayPoint’s current space.

The approximately 9,400-square-foot, street-level facility will nearly double WayPoint’s available space, bring clothing donation processing and storage onsite, and improve accessibility, privacy, and service flow.

“This is about much more than additional square footage,” said Melissa Stimple, Executive Director of WayPoint Resources.  “It’s about creating a welcoming, accessible place where people can find multiple forms of support and move toward greater stability.”

Early Leadership Support Builds Momentum
WayPoint has been quietly building support for the project and has already secured more than $2,300,000 toward the $3.2 million campaign goal.  Among the campaign’s Visionary Circle partners are the Community Foundation of Greater Des Moines, Prairie Meadows, and the Sandra & Dean Carlson Family Foundation, whose early leadership investments have helped move the project from vision to reality.

A New Space Designed Around the People WayPoint Serves
The new facility will allow WayPoint to bring together programs that currently operate within significant space constraints. Planned improvements will support:

• Larger client-choice food pantry and daily food access
• Expanded storage and food rescue capacity
• Clothing donation processing and shopping under one roof
• Additional clinic space to support patient care and volunteer medical providers
• Street-level accessibility and improved service flow

Community Invited to Help Complete the Campaign

“We are incredibly grateful to the donors who helped us reach this point,” Stimple said. “Now the broader community has an opportunity to help create a permanent home for WayPoint and ensure we are ready to serve for decades to come.”  Site preparation has begun, including construction of a new parking lot, with building renovation and construction expected to begin in the coming weeks.  WayPoint is targeting a spring 2027 move. Until that time, all programs and services will continue operating from WayPoint’s current location.
