Hawkeye athletes to appear on behalf of Waypoint Resources
Five University of Iowa athletes will join forces this month with Waukee Hy-Vee store to raise money and collect products for WayPoint Resources. The athletes appear as part of the SWARM N.I.L. program and are sponsored by Atlantic Bottling and Powerade. The donation drive is scheduled for Saturday, July 19, at the Waukee Hy-Vee.
Hawkeye football players slated to appear include defensive lineman Max Llewellyn of Urbandale, offensive lineman Cael Winter of Urbandale and offensive back Xavier Nwankpa of Pleasant Hill. Hawkeye women’s basketball players participating include guard Addie Deal of Irvine, California, and center Layla Hays of Wasilla, Alaska.
The athletes will greet the public from 1-3 p.m. on July 19 and may be accessed by providing a donation. Donors are asked to contribute with food products, cash, check or a credit card. Personal hygiene products will also be accepted.
Waukee Hy-Vee is located at 1005 E. Hickman Road, just west of N.E. Alice’s Road in Waukee.
All donations will go to Waypoint Resources of Waukee. WayPoint Resources serves Dallas County and surrounding area with supplemental food, clothing, basic healthcare, school essentials, emergency financial help and personalized guidance through additional community resources.
The former Waukee Area Christian Services changed its name to WayPoint Resources earlier this year to reflect the broader scope of resources now offered.
Founded by eight local churches, the nonprofit has grown into a community-driven organization. Board members represent faith-based organizations as well as other individuals, businesses and organizations from across the community.
